From fire comes ashes and that is what goes into my alkaline ash glaze: ash, common red clay, and feldspar. All local materials to the NC folk potter and to me as well. The process of getting this material is what
Michael Cardew described as "donkey work", or work that is done after some time without self conscious thought. (Thanks to

Hammonds pretzels, which provide a perfect container for the ashes.
